Only one road goes to the southernmost point in the continental US, and you will experience it. This road trip from Miami to Key West is one of the most scenic in the United States. You will hop from key to key using 52 bridges connecting them including the Seven Mile Bridge, one of the longest bridges in the world. The driving time is approximately four hours (with stop for breakfast and to stretch your legs), but you don’t worry: the beauties of the limpid aquamarine reefs of the Florida Keys will make you forget about it.
Key West, the Southernmost City, is 150 miles southwest of Miami and 90 miles north of Havana, Cuba. It is a seaport destination for many passenger cruise ships. The “Old Town” includes the major tourist destinations of the island including Mallory Square, Duval Street, the Truman Annex , Fort Zachary Taylor, the Wrecker’s Museum and Ripley’s Believe or not Museum. It is where you find the classic bungalows and guest mansions. A wide variety of restaurants offer a choice of indoor or outdoor dining including the famous Sloppy Joe’s Bar.
One of the biggest attractions on the island is the buoy at the corner of South Street and Whitehead that claims to be the southernmost point of the contiguous 48 states.
Whether you visit the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum, the Harry S. Truman Little White House, take a ride on the Conch Train for a City Tour or simply walk along Duval Street, this will be an unforgettable experience.
